A Deep Dive Into Human Weakness and the Cost of Secrets
From 30,000 feet, the book is about morality & human emotion. Rarely are things what they seem with people; both individuals and families have secrets. More importantly, everyone lies. I never set out to write a story on morality - human strengths, weaknesses, triumphs, and failings—but at some point I discovered that was the direction my characters wanted me to go. Within the two families, I lay bare unsavory things that happen every day. Did anything disturb you or make you cringe? That was by design while listening to my characters. I’ve received commentary that, in the aggregate, this story is not believable. That may very well be, but broken into segments, I can assure you these things happen every day, and I personally bear witness to several of them. Yes, there is that simple twist of fate that everyone has experienced in their lives that affects them forever. You and I are here now as a result.
A Clairvoyant's Reckoning With Family Secrets
All families have secrets—some more than others. Sometimes it can take a generation or more for them to surface into the light of day. On occasion, however, they stay buried forever. At the very least, secrets shroud embarrassment or shame, but then there are those things that are much darker and more nefarious.
And so it is with both the Eastford and Sinclair families. Brock Eastford is a reticent clairvoyant who gets more than he ever bargained for in this life as he is juggling his present problems with those of his family’s past. This is further complicated by his chance entanglement in the serious issues of another family. It is the journey of a young man who comes of age in the late 1960s at warp speed, contending with obstacles in his path at every turn.
